But it was also the Zoo's Deaf Day where they encouraged those who are deaf to come to the zoo because we had interpreters all over the zoo to help interpret shows and keeper chats.
Im not sure why they decided to have both on the same day....
Anyways I got to take out animals by myself today!!!! I even was told that I knew a lot about snakes by a random stranger after talking to her about the fact that snakes have a slow metabolism because they do not have to worry about regulating their own body temperature since they are ectothermic. She was surprised on how warm he was and I was telling her how calling snakes cold-blooded is actually a misnomer in the fact that they dont have cold blood, but are ectothermic which means they get their heat/cool from the outside environment. I also said how they dont have eyelids, but an outer covering that is shed at the same time the skin is shed.
Sometimes I just get excited and spit out random info...i may have gone into a discussion about the Jacobson's organ for smelling also.
And after work I got some hot chocolate and walked around zoograss for a bit.
By the way it was a high of 52 and cloudy all day so it was a chilly fall day at the zoo....good for hot chocolate!
