Week Overview

Sorry all who read...starting a new job really takes all of my energy out...after opening the store twice this week and closing 3 times this week...im exhausted.  Finally the weekend has come and I get to relax...YAY!!!!!

Anyways so far I have learned a lot of different things...such as how to catch crickets and fish and bag them for customers...which is most of the work day.  I also cleaned the bird cages and learned to do the closing activities for the birds, small mammals, reptiles, fish, and back rooms.

For the birds we check food, water, and make sure they have millet (odd looking plant with small seeds-picture below).  For the small mammals we check food, water, spot clean their cages if need be, and check to make sure the mammals dont have wettail (a type of diarrhea).  For the fish we feed a few of them bloodworms, check for dead fish, and turn out the lights.  For the reptiles we check for enough water and mist down the cages for tropical reptiles, then we turn off the daytime lights and basking light and turn on the nighttime basking light.  For the backrooms we have a overstock room and a quarantine room.  Overstock basically has reptiles and small mammals where we do the same thing.  Quarantine has sick animals so all require specific medications and special care.  We also have to write observations on charts to show how the animal progresses.

I also am learning more about how much knowledge it takes to start an aquarium and how to explain to customers everything they need to know about their new pets.  Also I was able to help people buy guinea pigs and some anoles that we had.

My part I hope to get better at and soon is being able to answer questions from customers where most questions are asking about problems with their animal.

I also learned how to face the store....yes I am new to retail stores so this was new to me.  Facing is when you bring all the products to the front of the shelves.

Also today we got in a shipment of fish so I helped unpack them and float the bags in the specific tanks, then we cut the bags and pour out all but a third of the water and then pour the fish and water in the tank.

Overall it has been a very eventful week.  Looking forward to what comes in store for next week.

Now to relax this weekend...and maybe go spend some of my giftcards from my birthday!
