change machines do not take 2 dollar bills...true story

Today was a hot day in ohio.....yes it was still in the 90s....but here thats hot.  SO we were on high temperature alert for out animal encounters.  Since most of the animals we take out are ectotherms (cant regulate body temp on own) they can overheat quite fast in hot temps.  So we spent most of our encounters inside animal houses around the zoo.  Its nice to have finicky animals because you get to spend most of the day inside...except the goats....


Anyways today was my monday and I had apparently missed a few big events over 2 days....
1. the 97th anniversary of Martha the last Passenger Pigeon's death was thursday.
2. one of the interns was fired....she didnt really come to work anyways....


So now its down to 4 of us!!!!


The only animal we were able to take outside today was Stella the Star Tortoise who is pretty shy...but she overcame her shyness and actually moved really far on her own.  She did hide in her shell for like 10 minutes.  While in the children's zoo a guy came over and told me he put a $2 bill into a change machine....but it didnt break it or give it back....it ate it.  People really?!?  Why would you expect a machine to know what a $2 bill is....some humans havent seen them even.  Plus wouldnt you want to keep a $2 bill?  I would....so if you have a $2 bill take it to the bank or at least a human cashier and use like that....not to get change for goat feed.


I also took out 3 different ball pythons today....stripe, disco, and cue ball.  2 times we went to the dark night hunters exhibit.....its awesome to come around a corner with a snake when people are unaware....i caused some screams, curses, and running away....it was fun.  Also when people are looking at something just walk up look at the animal for a while then look at them and say would you like to meet our ball python right here?  fun times.... :)


Goats + heat = hell 
Basically no one came in the goat yard but fed them over the fence....when you feed goats they automatically poo....so yeah....lots of cleaning up after them in hot weather... then there was the goat who started eating my shorts and the one who licked my leg.....weird
