The day after labor day is amazing in the zoo world. It is the day they change over the programs to the fall schedule, which means shorter hours and less programs. This is mainly because a lot less people come to the zoo especially if it becomes cooler.
Today was cool and overcast with a few showers here and there so naturally people were hard to find.
I was put in the gift shop for the first hour and a family came asking if we had cheap options for coats....they decided 37 dollars for a fleece is not cheap. They were unprepared since they were from north carolina and werent expecting cold weather. I told them I wasnt expecting it either since im from texas...so they asked if my family had been affected by the fires. Thank you random family from north carolina for asking it was really nice of you.
Anyways they also started a lot of construction at the zoo today so most of our cut through pathways are now closed....sad day. But after construction is done (in spring 2012) there will be an amazing cat canyon!!!!
So we had to basically walk the entire zoo to get to the manatee springs area for our next encounter and then sat in front of the manatee tank watching them while holding the ball python. The manatees here are all rehab manatees. One was hit by a boat, another was raised in captivity and is here for the time being, another was orphaned and is here until it gains weight to be rehabilitated for release. Its a pretty cool program.
My afternoon was spent with goats and lorikeets again. In an hour with the goats I saw 26 people....so it was basically a bonding time with the goats....heres a pic of frodo
The keepers decided to also train a dog named blakely today in the goat yard on the act of herding.....which scared the poo right out of the goats.....which I then had to help clean up...it was a lot of poo.
Oh side note....Texas A&M aggies won the first game of the season on sunday!!!! WHOOP!
